Step 1 – Firstly you need to take every single item of cutlery in your Mikasa set and put it into a container filled with warm water. Now remove one item at a time and clean them with a soft dry cloth. You should never allow your cutlery to air dry as this will only result in more stains appearing on the surface.

Step 2 – Should you find after washing them in the warm water that there are some stains remaining you have two options to help remove these more stubborn ones. First off you could apply a mixture of lemon juice and tartar cream directly to the area concerned and rub gently with a clean soft cloth. However if the stains are a little more stubborn then rub the mixture on to them a little more vigorously using a sponge.

If you don’t want to spend too much time having to clean every single piece of cutlery in your flatware set then you can always apply some rubbing alcohol to the stain and allow it to remain on the item for at least 2 minutes. This will give time for the alcohol to be absorbed by the stain and so removing it becomes a lot easier and will only require you to rub the area gently with a soft clean cloth.

Step 3 – Should your silverware have become tarnished then in order to remove this you will need some aluminum foil and a large bowl. The bowl should be large enough so that it can easily accommodate every single item in your Mikasa flatware collection. However before placing the cutlery in the bowl make sure that it is completely lined with the foil.

The other reason for making sure that you use a big bowl is to ensure that each item of cutlery you place in it will be in contact with the foil. Once all the items of Mikasa flatware that are tarnished has been placed in the foil lined bowl now sprinkle over them some salt and then add plenty of hot water. Now all you have to do is leave them to soak in this solution for around an hour before removing them and drying them with a cloth.
